In order to conserve battery, the Bluetooth reader will turn off when not connected for more than 3 minutes. In this happens, simply tap the button on the bottom to turn on the reader. Then refresh the webpage and authentication will proceed.


Yes! On the USB-C and Lightning Readers, you must use the Micro-USB port on the side of the reader when connecting to your Mac or PC. You will need to use the Micro-USB or USB-C connector on the Bluetooth reader to connect to your Mac or PC. If you have a USB-C port on your computer, you may need a USB-C to USB-A adapter (not provided) to connect to the computer.


Smart Card Utility App enables smart card authentication only on supported readers from Twocanoes Software. If you have an iPhone and iOS 16, the app may be able to read the certificates and allow you to verify and change your PIN.


The green indicator light (second from the left) indicates power, while the blue light (third from the left) indicates Bluetooth connection. When the blue light is flashing, the reader is searching for a Bluetooth connection. When the green indicator light is flashing, the contents of the inserted smart card are being accessed. For the Bluetooth reader, you must give permission to use bluetooth. This is normally requested when first connecting to the reader. If you did not allow it, you can enable it in iOS Settings->Smart Card Utility. For the USB-C and Lightning readers, try disconnecting and reconnecting the reader. Force quitting the app or rebooting the iOS device may help as well.


There is partial support for Citrix. When connecting, you will be prompted to authenticate and token file will download. Open this file and Citrix will open. Once in the Citrix app, any smart card authentication requested inside the app will not work due to lack of Smart Card reader support in the app. We are looking at resolving this issue.


To determine if your reader has properly self-installed on a Windows workstation, go to Windows Device Manager (right-click on Computer (This PC in Windows 8/10), select Properties and select Device Manager). You should see a list of devices similar to the list below. There should be a category entitled Smart card readers and if you click on it, it should show a device named Microsoft Usbccid Smartcard Reader (WUDF) or similar.


To reinstall the Windows driver, the reader most first be removed from Windows Device Manager. To do so, keep the reader plugged into the USB port. In Windows Device Manager, go into the Smart card readers and right click on the "Microsoft Usbccid Smartcard Reader (WUDF)" or other reader that may be listed and select uninstall device. Then reboot your computer/device. Windows will refresh the driver with the most recent and suitable driver. Assure "Microsoft Usbccid Smartcard Reader (WUDF)" now appears in device manager.


To further test your reader, insert a CAC, PIV or any chip and pin credit card into the reader while the reader is plugged into your computer/device. Another category should appear in Windows Device Manager below the Smart card readers category entitled "Smart cards". If you remove/insert your card from the reader, the Smart Cards category should toggle on and off.


OS X will self-install an EMV Smart Card reader driver automatically. To determine if these readers are properly installed go to: / About This Mac / System Report... / Hardware / USB. An "EMV Smartcard Reader" device should be present.

I have a Military CAC that I am trying to use to sign a PDF document with. I created the document and have tried multiple signature fields. I have my CAC connected via an ActivCard reader and my computer is correctly reading the card. I have verified that the certificate is present in the computer and that Adobe Acrobat Pro can see the certificate. I am not given the option to sign with the card.
